Course Choices Process for Session 2026-27
The course choices process for Session 2026-27 begins on Friday 16th January 2026 for all current S2-S5 pupils. Below, you will find all of the information you will need to support your child through this process.
All parents & carers should have received an email by 7.00pm on Friday 16th January with information about the course choice process.
We have two processes in place for Course Choices this year. The main options process is for the majority of pupils at KGS and "Supported Options/ASN Pupils" for those pupils who may require additional support from their Guidance Teacher or PT ASN to create more bespoke timetables to meet their needs. The parents/carers of pupils who will follow the "Supported Options/ASN Pupils" process will have received an email explaining that their child's Guidance Teacher or PT ASN will be arranging an in-person meeting to discuss options.

On Tuesday 13th February 2026, KGS hosted a Pathways Information Evening for parents and pupils to support the course choices process. Below is a copy of the slides used in the SLT presentation at the start of the evening.

Step 1: Learner Pathway Planning Sheets
All of our pupils who are undertaking the course choice process this year will be asked to fill out a Learner Pathway Planning sheet as the first step in the course choice process. This allows them to map out their educational journey from S3-S6. Pupils are then able to predict what they may take in future years as a result of their course choices this year. This helps pupils to make well-informed and sensible decisions, as they can see what courses would be available to them in future years as a result of the subjects they choose this year.
Pupils will be given a paper copy of this sheet in PSE by their Guidance Teachers, or if you have received an email explaining that your child's Guidance Teacher or PT ASN is meeting you in person to discuss their course choices, you will be given this at the meeting.
Once your child has finalised their Learner Pathway Planning Sheet, their Guidance Teacher will sign this and send it home with your child to be signed.
Once you have signed this, you will be able to enter your child's course choices on a Google Form which will be emailed to you on Friday 23rd January 2026. The deadline for submitting the Google Form is midnight on Sunday 8th February 2026.

Course Choice Information Booklets
Below, you will find the course choice information booklets that contain course descriptors for all subjects being offered at Keith Grammar School in Session 2026-27:
- An S3 course choice booklet for those progressing from S2 into S3 next session
- Course Choice Booklets for pupils progressing from S3 into S4, or those continuing in the Senior Phase next session. There are three booklets, one for each SCQF level of course, from Level 4 to Level 6
- The UHI Moray Schools Prospectus, which contains descriptors for all courses available to pupils who select the Wednesday Day Release option for S4, S5 or S6. Pupils can only choose one of these courses each year.
Please note that there are no course descriptor booklets for the Advanced Higher Courses, as pupils who are interested in sitting Advanced Higher in a subject must speak to the PT of the subject in the first instance for more information. Advanced Higher courses offer a large degree of personalisation and choice, so pupils must have these discussions before selecting a course. For session 2026-27, the following Advanced Highers are available for KGS Pupils:

SQA Attainment Statistics
To support pupils making choices for the Senior Phase in Session 2026-27, we have provided important SQA statistics spreadsheets below. These spreadsheets contain very useful information to help you make well-informed choices:
- SQA Attainment Statistics 2025 - this shows the overall national pass rates for all National Qualifications courses sat last year. Pass rates vary widely between subjects, particularly when it comes to grade distribution i.e. the percentage of pupils achieving each grade
- SQA Grade Progression Tables - this shows the percentage of pupils nationally who achieved grades in a subject based on the grade they acheived at the level below previously e.g. you can see what percentage of pupils got an A, B, C, D or No Award at Higher if they got an A, B, C, D or No Award at National 5 the previous year. This is very useful when considering if you should progress to the level above next year in a subject, as for some subjects nationally, only a very small percentage of pupils achieved a pass at Higher if they achieved only a C pass at National 5 the year before.
Moray Schools Consortia Offer
We are working in collaboration with other Moray schools to broaden the opportunities available to our young people. As part of this partnership, we are exploring the possibility of offering a wider range of subjects at Level 6 and Level 7 across the Moray Schools. Through this collaboration, young people may have the opportunity to study subjects that are not currently offered at our school. Depending on the course and the partner school, learning could take place either in person at another school site, or virtually through online lessons.

This would replace one of your subject choices for S5/6.
Foundation Apprenticeships through Highland Learning Academy
There is also the opportunity to study a Level 6 Foundation Apprenticeship through Highland Learning Academy for the following courses:
- Level 6 Foundation Apprenticeship - Business
- Level 6 Foundation Apprenticeship – Creative & Digital Media
This qualification consists of completing a Level 6 NPA (delivered face to face or virtually on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and a work placement on a Wednesday)
